Use the character (link below) to pose out your joke using stepped key frames to the audio. You could very easily see if this joke then works and explore getting the timing and staging correct. In terms of other assest you could quickly model rough stand in objects too. Think of it as a 'pre-viz' animatic.

Character...
https://www.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8b71648a5f676daa71a1

Select All (Body and Face)
https://www.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8b71648d595f71b7a6aeAlan Postingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09282179748734196674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503030921127487367.post-526637496279084542016-10-28T14:11:46.172+01:002016-10-28T14:11:46.172+01:00I take your point that some of these feel similar ...I take your point that some of these feel similar (psychological etc) but for now explore these ideas as visual exercises. Comedy is in the telling (execution, staging, timing, design etc) - the how you do it vs what it is. These jokes may feel different or infact change with further visual thinking. For example, a guy saying this to himself in the mirror as he gets ready for work (although we don’t know that at the start) might be a simple enough set up. You could also play with the job he did for example the ending would be him putting on a hat, badge, or similar that revealed his actual job...like a lollipop man. Overall it leaves the audience with the questions ‘what was he involved in?’, ‘what has he responsible for?’, and ‘what is he about to do?’.

Clip 2: I think this one should be told ‘as is’ meaning that you could bring in a pop culture reference. For example ‘Darth Vader’ is being told that what he has always thought was black is in fact Navy Blue by Luke Skywalker (Return of the Jedi / Black Outfit) who is now trying to be better than his father. I wouldn’t normally recommend a pop culture reference but seeing as this is a sketch show format you can have fun with the designs…eg a costume version of Darth Vader and a bad wig for Luke Skywalker.

Clip 3: Yes this is along the right lines. I like the idea of close up and serious and cutting to minor crime.

Clip 4: We have discussed this one.

Clip 5: Yes the therapist could work. Marshal could also indicate the Wild West or USA police too. Perhaps generate another couple of ideas using those starting points? Another thing to consider is that there is no second character saying ‘You have no friends’, perhaps that’s in his mind too. For example, if he were talking to a sock puppet and then he replies to himself via the puppet and then last thing we see is another sock puppet (his other hand) rise up into the shot to show a different character whilst the first puppet (and he) become shocked by its sudden presence. All of this works as a joke because ‘hands are pairs’ and why is his brain separating them in that way.
Alan Postingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09282179748734196674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503030921127487367.post-91559924030013670792016-10-27T23:19:00.612+01:002016-10-27T23:19:00.612+01:00I know, I used a PNG. image file of that chart, wh...I know, I used a PNG. image file of that chart, which I found on Google, and so it was a bit difficult to get all their heights accurate, based on that existing chart, but I've sorted it out now. :)dreason479https://www.blogger.com/profile/08160867191338656831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3503030921127487367.post-4216300783725918422016-10-27T21:43:48.315+01:002016-10-27T21:43:48.315+01:00The height chart tells us tall guy is 6'8"...The height chart tells us tall guy is 6'8". I think you could bring him down to maybe 6'3" and he'd still be fairly tall.Spacer176https://www.blogger.com/profile/04901760829312108610noreply@blogger.com
