I think you need to try something more 'structural' to help you get your head around this; go into Maya, block out a scene with some basic, Riley-derived shapes, put a camera in there and give yourself some perspectival set-ups to work into. It's clear you're struggling to think more spatially, and this might be a useful way for you to get into some more creative territories.
